Every one seems to like these articles about the Mets all time __________. I thought this topic would be a great discussion for fans. This is also the perfect time for this post since there was a defensive blunder in last nights game.

The Mets who rely heavily on their starting pitching have not had great defense behind them in recent years. To put things in perspective look how silly this sounds:

I am going to run down a list of the worst Mets defensive plays of all time. If I don’t mention a play feel free to comment below what play you think was the worst. Here we go! (They are not listed in any order)

  • Daniel Murphy Error in game 4 of the 2015 World Series
  • Lucas Duda throw home game 5 of the 2015 World Series
  • Luis Castillo dropped pop up with 2 outs and 2 runners on base in the 2009 Subway Series at Yankees Stadium. Mark Teixeira scored the winning run. Final score 9-8.
  • David Cone went to cover first base on a throw from 2nd basemen Gregg Jefferies. Cone continued to argue with the umpire. The play was still alive and 2 runs to scored on the play.
  •  Giants catcher Bobby Estalella hit a fly pop to Benny Agbayani in left field. Agbayani, thinking that the catch made three outs, gave the ball to a child in the stands and began to trot toward the dugout. the play was dead, and all three runners were awarded two bases causing Jeff Kent and Ellis Burks to score, and the Giants to take the lead, 2-1.
  • Yoenis Cespedes drops/misplays a routine fly ball in center field on the first pitch in the bottom of the 1st during the 2015 World Series. The Royals took a 1-0 lead on a little league homerun.
  • Lucas Duda playing Left Field. ( Too many plays where he drops the ball)
  • Daniel Murphy Playing Left Field. (Too many misplays)
  • The entire 1962 teams defense.
  • 8-20-18 Dominic Smith playing out of position in Left Field. The ball was hit to shallow left field and him and Amed Rosario both went for the ball. The ball was dropped and the Giants scored and went on to win 2-1 in 13 innings. (Not the worst play but its fresh in everyone’s minds)
