In a recent poll, 30 of 33 BBWAA voters said they would vote for Jacob deGrom (with the other three voting for Max Scherzer) in a potential Cy Young vote.
Scherzer gave up back-to-back home runs in the third inning. A two-run shot to Michael Conforto then a solo blast by Jay Bruce. Things you hate to see from your ace? THAT. He did however strike out 13 Mets batters. Personally I’d rather have my ace give up 0 runs with less strikeouts.
Conforto has put together a number of solid performances in September, with Thursday’s effort marking his sixth multi-RBI game of the month.
Back to Max: Max has allowed 20 earned runs over his last 39 innings. His ERA has risen from 2.11 to 2.57. DeGrom, who will start against righthander Joe Ross on Friday night, is 8-9 with a major-league best 1.78 ERA.
