According to Jon Heyman, Brodie Van Wagenen deal with the Mets is 4 years.
Update: Source says Brodie Van Wagenen is expected to take the Mets job, though the team is likely giving him a day or two to inform his clients and tie up any CAA business. But it seems the Mets have their man.
@JeffPassan reported Van Wagenen had emerged as “a significant favorite.” – @Feinsand
Former Texas Rangers and Milwaukee Brewers general manager Doug Melvin is reportedly out of the running for the New York Mets GM position. The remaining two candidates are Brodie Van Wagenen and Chaim Bloom.
According to Andy Martino of SNYtv, Wagenen is the front runner for the Mets GM position.
3 things to know about Brodie Van Wagenen:
- He has a good relationship with the Mets players: He represents Jacob deGrom, Yoenis Cespedes, Noah Syndergaard Todd Frazier, Jason Vargas. and Tim Tebow as an agent. Van Wagenen would obviously have to step down as an agent if named the Mets’ general manager.
- He has become a master of negotiations and persuasion. He could take that to the next level if he became GM. Van Wagenen and his crew at CAA have locked into $2.2 billion worth of contracts between 2012 and 2017, ranking 1st just in front of Scott Boras.
- CAA currently represents 23 all-stars, has six Cy Young awards under their watch to go along with five Rookie-of-the-Years and two MVPs. (Imagine if he brought over some of these guys through trades/ FA)
