Instead of looking at the free agent market to acquire a catcher, the Mets are taking the more difficult route by exploring a trade with the Marlins for J.T Realmuto. According to sources last night, the Mets were engaged in talks with the Yankees and Marlins. Among player names mentioned were Realmuto and Noah Syndergaard.

The Mets could easily avoid all this trade talk by simply signing Wilson Ramos or Yasmel Grandal. But it’s not that simple isn’t it?  The Mets are clearly broke. (Are we shocked though?) Why can’t the Mets  raise payroll? The Wilpons are limiting Brodie Van Wagenen’s spending thus forcing him to come up with creative trades to swing together a roster.

Ask yourselves this: If money wasn’t an issue why wouldn’t the Mets sign a free agent catcher and keep Syndergaard?

I’ve seen fans propose 3 way trade deals with the Yankees and Marlins. Here are a few of them:

Fan one:

Mets trade Noah Syndergaard

Mets get J.T Realmuto, Miguel Andujar and Sonny Gray

Yankees trade Miguel Andujar, Sonny Gray and prospects

Yankees get Noah Syndergaard

Marlins trade J.T Realmuto

Marlins get prospects from the Yankees

Fan two:

Mets trade Noah Syndergaard

Mets get J.T Realmuto, Miguel Andujar and Sonny Gray

Yankees trade Gleyber Torres, Sonny Gray and prospects

Yankees get Noah Syndergaard

Marlins trade J.T Realmuto

Marlins get prospects from the Yankees

Final thought: The Mets need to keep Noah Syndergaard unless there is a huge haul of talent coming back to New York in a trade involving him. We don’t need another hole in the rotation.
