After admitting he underwhelmed in his first spring tune-up, deGrom showed no mercy to Detroit batters in today’s game. In the Mets’ game against the Detroit Tigers, deGrom threw three dominant scoreless innings of work. This lowered his ERA to 2.25, while only giving up one hit in the process. He added 4 strikeouts to his name in the process of his stellar outing.

In his second straight pairing with Minor League catcher Devin Mesoraco, it seems as if the Mets’ ace will have a personal catcher throughout the season. His performance with Mesoraco behind the plate is impossible to ignore, but it creates an interesting roster situation for the Mets. They have 2 major-league caliber backups on the roster in Travis d’Arnaud and Mesoraco, but Mesoraco may have the edge due to his relationship with deGrom. The Mets can carry 3 catchers on the 25-man roster, but it may not be feasible due to their Major League infield depth.

deGromination is alive and well in 2019!
