The New York Mets agreed to a five-year, $137.5 million contract extension with ace right-hander Jacob deGrom according to SNY. I am ecstatic and so happy for deGrom!

Two days ago, Noah Syndergaard expressed his displeasure with the Mets not extending deGrom yet, days before Opening day. The media also expressed concern over an extension after seeing a domino of players from other teams being extended.

“Jake’s the best pitcher in baseball right now. I think he deserves whatever amount he’s worth. I want to keep him happy, so when it does come time for him to reach free agency, he stays on our side pitching for the Mets. I just think they should quit all this fuss and pay the man already.”- Noah Syndergaard

It seems to me that the only time the Wilpons pay up is when they are feeling heat from the media and the fans. Perfect examples: Mike Piazza, Yoenis Cespedes. Look I am not complaining here. I love deGrom and I think he deserves this extention. All I’m saying is it’s no coincidence that the Wilpons make decisions when they are pressured by the NY media.
